Our Founder

Mokichi Okada

Almost a century ago, Mokichi Okada foresaw troubled times stemming from a materialistic modern civilization.  He advocated a world in which spiritualism and materialism would be in harmony- a world in which all lives are filled with radiance.   He called this new world “The World of Beauty”.

Okada, aiming to build this new world, identified health, agriculture, and art as the three key elements in human society.  He devoted all his energies to research practices that dealt with the resolution of illnesses, eco-conscious and sustainable agriculture, and the preservation of art and culture. He established Okada Purifying Therapy, and founded other various organizations for the purpose of researching and sharing his ideas on health and wellness with the world.

MOA hawaii's Programs

Okada Purifying Therapy (OPT)
An energy healing art developed by our founder Mokichi Okada. By channeling universal energy, we can increase the body's natural ability to heal itself.
Purification
Just as our natural ecosystem cleanses itself periodically with water (rain) and wind, our body—a microcosm—also cleanses itself periodically. Focusing the spiritual energy available in the universe onto the affected part of the body will accelerate the dissipation of such impure matters.
Results
Research indicates that over 70% of the people who received this therapy noticed benefits from this therapy. From reduced stiffness to reduced pain associated with injury, the merits of Purifying Therapy are expressed by clients.
Testimonials
“I actually felt nothing after my first experience of Purifying Therapy. However, the next morning, I noticed that I was pain free. I was stunned. It’s been a month since my great experience and I am still pain free.” - Taeko Teruya
Community
MOA continues to share and teach this healing art with the community. Monthly classes are held at our Wellness Center. Practitioners can be found at the Wellness Center, Pearlridge Shopping Center, Valley of the Temple's Byodo-In and other special events and demonstrations.

Art & Culture
"Undoubtedly it is the mission of art to elevate human sentiments, enrich life, and make life more meaningful and enjoyable"
Classes
We believe that people's lives become radiant by enjoying beauty. MOA Hawaii continues to promote art & culture activities in our community through the tea ceremony, flower arranging, and art classes.
Event Calendar
Kōhrinka
Kōhrinka classes teach the Japanese art of flower arrangement bringing beauty into people's homes. Kōhrinka was established with the desire that we would encounter flowers, which are the closest and most readily available forms of beauty that could also be called masterpieces of Nature.
Ikekomi
Mokichi Okada's "Movement to Create Paradise Through Flowers" lives on with ikekomi. Our volunteers create flower arrangements in public spaces for everyone to enjoy. Airports, libraries, hospitals, theaters, government buildings, etc. have been known to display our arrangements.
Tea Ceremony
The tea ceremony is a comprehensive art and is an integral part of traditional Japanese culture. It is a practice of opening one’s awareness of beauty. This art is not simply serving a bowl of tea but infusing the heart of the host into the bowl.
Children's Painting Contest
Every year MOA Hawaii hosts Beauty Through The Eyes of Our Children. The artistic talent of children from districts all over Hawaii is celebrated and displayed in malls and other public places for everyone to enjoy.

Nature Farming
“The important action to take in Nature Farming is to revere the soil, love it, and keep it pure. The soil will then be sure to respond and do its work willingly, for it has feelings and emotions, just as we do.”
Urban Garden
MOA Hawaii has a tiny urban Garden In Nuuanu where care is made to nurture the soil that grows fruits and vegetables without using chemicals or fertilizers. Fresh vegetables and fruits are harvested and brought to the Wellness Center for purchase.
Mālama ʻĀina
MOA Hawaii is passionate about sharing ways we can reconnect and bring love back to the Earth that feeds us. We teach home gardening classes, and sometimes even help families and school start their own gardens, compost or worm bins.

MOA (Mokichi Okada Association) International

MOA International’s ethos is based on the philosophy and work of Mokichi Okada (1882-1955), who publicly announced his vision for creating a new civilization in January, 1935. His idea for this new civilization was that it must bring permanent peace and happiness to all human beings all across the world without biases for certain religions or ethnic groups.  In hope of perpetuating Okada’s vision for the new civilization, MOA was inaugurated by the U.N. in 1980 in Washington D.C.  MOA’s aim is to undertake cultural enterprises based on Okada’s philosophy, concepts, and plans.

Since its launch in 1980 from Atami, Japan, MOA International has been carrying out a wide range of activities and events focusing on Okada Purifying Therapy, Art & Culture, and the MOA Nature Farming / Natural Food Movement all across the globe.
